Bruce Edward Slaughter, 75, passed away on August 7, 2025, in Sugar Tree, Tennessee.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, and raised in Russellville, Kentucky, Bruce lived a life defined by service, skill, and a passion for the outdoors. He proudly served 23 years in the United States Navy, specializing in aviation electronics and retiring as a Senior Chief. During his naval career, he was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he met his beloved wife, Beverly Forbis, as she checked in for duty to serve in the Navy as well. He also served in Oak Harbor, Washington, and Millington, Tennessee.
After retiring from the Navy, Bruce built a successful career as an electrical engineer in the boating industry. He resided in Burlison, Tennessee, for many years, spending cherished time in Sugar Tree, Tennessee, before making it his permanent home in retirement. A devoted member of his community, Bruce was actively involved in the Parsons Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and Perry County Shrine Club, where he supported numerous charitable initiatives.
Bruce found great joy in boating on the Tennessee River, hunting, and fishing, reflecting his deep connection to nature. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter. His warm presence and unwavering commitment to his community left a lasting legacy.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Slaughter of Sugar Tree, TN; son, Jimmy (Kim) Slaughter of Union City, TN; bonus son, Ed Starkey of Atoka, TN; daughter, Brandie (Doug) Carr of Burlison, TN; brothers, Mike (Linda) Slaughter of Russellville, KY and Patrick (Elaine) Slaughter of Spring, TX; sister, Cindy (Randy) Bennett of Pheonix, AZ; grandchildren, Hailey Slaughter, Garrett Slaughter, Drew (Emmy) Carr, Blake Carr (Mikayla Ditto), Chelse Starkey, Andrew (Jessica) Starkey, and Michael (Jennifer) Starkey; great grandchildren, Will Carr, Hattie Mae Jones, Makala Starkey, Addison Starkey, and Ella Hayden; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Mr. Slaughter is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Costello and stepfather, Douglas Costello.
Visitation for Mr. Slaughter will be held on Tuesday August 12, 2025, from 9:00AM until 12:00PM at Parsons Mortuary. Masonic Services will be held following visitation at 12:00PM in the Parsons Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 12, 2025, at 1:30PM at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery Chapel at Parker Crossroads in Wildersville, TN. Burial will follow services there in the Veterans Cemetery.
