Eleanor "Peggy" True

Eleanor “Peggy” True, age 88, passed away November 3, 2022, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa.

The second of eight children born to Louise and Joseph Pegarella in Askam Run, Pennsylvania, Peggy graduated from Hanover Township Memorial High School and joined the United States Airforce a year later. She met and married the love of her life, John H. True, in 1954, and upon being honorably discharged in 1955, they returned to his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. She worked for the draft board and then the Memphis Public Schools while raising two sons. The family relocated to Davenport, Iowa, as part of a job transfer for John in 1970, and Peggy worked in the Davenport public schools as a library aid. Peggy and John retired to the Tennessee River near Sugar Tree, Tennessee, in 1988. After John passed away in 1998, Peggy stayed in Tennessee, for nearly 20 more years where she was active at St. Regina Catholic Church and served on the board of the Parsons (Tenn.) Public Library. When her health started to decline in 2018, she moved to Carlisle, Iowa, to be closer to her children.

Preceding her in death were her mother Louise, father Joseph, husband John, son, James, and sisters, Joan and Donna.

She is survived by her siblings Joseph (Pat) Pegarella of Hunlock Creek, PA., Louise Martin of Somers, NY, Edward Pegarella, of Warrior Run, PA, and Diane (John) Olejar of Warrior Run, PA, sons; Mike (Cyndi) True of Raymore, MO. and Mark (Kelli) True of Carlisle, IA, and four grandsons; Dustin True of Kansas City, MO., Dylan True if Kansas City, MO, Quinn True of Brookwood, AL, and Carson True of Carlisle, IA.

Funeral will be held at 1pm, Friday, December 9, 2022, at St. Regina Catholic Church, Parsons, TN., followed by a graveside ceremony at Oak Grove Cemetery near Cozette, TN. A reception will be held following burial at St. Regina.
