James Vaughn "Bobby" Moore Obituary

James Vaughn (“Bobby”) Moore, 97, of Memphis, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on December 22, 2025. He was born on August 24, 1928, in Busseltown, Decatur County, Tennessee, to Pleasant Calvin (“Pleas”) Moore and Maggie Leanne Gabbard Moore.

Bob was a graduate of Parsons High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force with the 4415th Flight Operations Squadron. Following his military service, he attended the University of Tennessee at Martin and later graduated from Memphis State University. He retired from the State of Tennessee after many years of faithful service as an Educational Specialist.

Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Alongside his wife, he lovingly cared for many children over the years and found pleasure in tending his vegetable garden.  He was an avid baseball fan—especially enjoying Memphis Redbirds games—and held a lifelong love for country and gospel music, taking particular delight in attending live, toe-tapping performances in his later years. He was also an animal lover and a quiet admirer of the natural world.

He is survived by his children, Alicia Stoker, Carol Moore, Morris Moore, and Joy Adams (Alan); his grandchildren, Luke, Paul, Michael, Michelle, Alan II, Luciana, and Liliana; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Margaret Lucille (“Lucy”) Riggs Moore; his parents; his brothers, Colbert Fay (“Fay”), Lee Mancil (“Jim”), and Paul D. (“Jake”) Moore; and his eight half-siblings, Allie Iona, Joseph Pleasant, Charlie Clarence (“Chuck”), Luther Bedford, Neva Dell, Maggie Ruth, Alma Troy, and George Edmond Moore.

Visitation will be held at Parsons Mortuary on Friday, January 2, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., immediately preceding the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery.

He lived a quiet and contented life, steady in his ways and faithful in his love, and his homegoing is celebrated with grateful hearts for the many lives he touched.
