Mr. Jerry Eugene Miller of Arlington, Texas passed away on August 13, 2021.
A graduate of Mascoutah High School in Mascoutah, Illinois. Jerry entered College and paused College to join the Army. He served in the Army as a Army Field Artillery Officer, as a Battery Commander, BN motor officer and a Artillery Instructor at the Field Artillery School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Jerry was also a Rotary wing Aviator that flew multiple types of helicopters. He served in Vietnam with Btry B 4/47 Arty 101 Airborne Division (AMB1) as Cobra pilot Sec. Ldr. Service Awards: Distinguished Flying Cross W/bronze oak leaf cluster; Bronze Star metal; Air medal w/v w/23 award; Army Good Conduct Metal; National Defense Service Metal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with/Palm; Vietnam Service Metal; Vietnam Campaign metal and Ribbon; Aviation Badge; Expert marksmanship Badge with M14, M16, Pistol. Completed service as the rank of Captain.
After Military Service, Jerry completed college with a bachelor's degree and a masters degree. He went on to pursue a career at Bell Helicopter in Hurst, Texas that lasted 27 years. Jerry was an employee, served several years as a great member and friend of International United Automobile and Aircraft Workers of America. Jerry went on to be a Zone Representative and Former President of UAW Local 317 Hurst, Texas.
Jerry was a loving and caring father, grandfather, brother and a friend to everyone he met. Always eager to cook a meal that anyone was welcome to share. He had a big heart. Working at Bell Helicopter, Jerry shared his love of flying and was eager to show compassion and friendship for his fellow workers.
He was a member of the Eastern Star and a Mason in the Fort Worth, Texas area.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Donald B. Miller and Betty Jo (Dickson) Miller.
He is survived by son Jerry E. Miller Jr. and daughter Carrie Lynn Taylor. Grandchildren: Justin, Austin, and Logan Taylor; Dylan and Journey Miller. Two sisters Patricia A. Painter (James DC) and Linda S. VanVliet (Ernie). Nieces and Nephews: Cindy (Doug), Jennifer, Julie, Brittney (Greg), Ernie, Chris (Brittany), Lisa (Kent). Important life long friend Linda Hamlin.
Arrangements to be handled by Parsons Mortuary in Parsons, TN 38363.
Funeral August 28, 2021. Visitation prior to funeral from 10:00 to 11:00 with services following at 11:00 at funeral home. Burial to follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
In leu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN in memory of Jerry.
