Jim Evans Obituary

James F. Evans, better known as “Jim” was born on January 30, 1938 to Joe Evans and Onella Evans.  He was raised on a farm in the Cedar Hill Community on the edge of Decatur and Henderson County.  Jim lost his father to a hunting accident when he was only 18 years old. His family then sold the farm and  moved to Parsons.  He soon married his Highschool Sweetheart, Janell Townsend.  They remained married until her passing in 2016….A total of 60 years---quite a testament to the love they shared.  Jim joined the Townsend Insurance Agency in 1959, where he served the residents of Decatur and surrounding counties until two weeks prior to his passing. After becoming a partner a few years later, Townsend-Evans Insurance became a staple in the area.  He enjoyed a career spanning a total of 63 years. During his career he also founded Evans Real Estate, where he was a Real Estate Broker and licensed appraiser.  Jim is survived by one sister Jo Ann Smith, of Gallatin, TN.

Jim and Janell had a wonderful family complete with 5 children, all boys.  Mark Evans and his wife Julie, of Nashville, TN, Wib Evans and his wife Joellen, of Lexington, TN, James Branson Evans (deceased Infant), Bruce Evans and his wife Jill of Collierville, TN, Alan Evans and his wife Kelly of Lexington, TN.  He was blessed with 10 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

During his time on this earth, he enjoyed, playing golf with a large group of friends.  They can all remember his short game.  The highlight of his golf career was playing in the USF&G Golf Classic Pro Am on the PGA tour, as well as a Hole in One in 2010 at the Tennessee River Golf Club.

Over his lifetime, Jim was known as a solid community businessman.  His honesty, knowledge, and integrity was well respected by all who knew him.

Jim went to be with the Lord and reunite with his wife on June 13, 2022.
