R. C. Montgomery

Mr. R. C. Montgomery age 91 of Parsons, TN passed away on Saturday June 10, 2023 at Jackson Madison County Hospital in Jackson, TN from complications after suffering a stoke.

R. C. served as Decatur County Clerk for 40 years.  He was elected to office in September of 1954 and married in April of the next year, signing his own marriage license.  He and Mary recently celebrated 68 years together. 

In his spare time, he loves to work in the yard and enjoyed watching Cardinal baseball. 

He was the oldest member of First Baptist Church upon his passing, and a long time Deacon.  His family, church, and community were important aspects of his life. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Montgomery of Parsons, TN; son, Steve (Tracey) Montgomery of Jackson, TN; daughter, Amy (Don) Stricklin of Decaturville, TN; brother, Joe (Anna) Montgomery of Brentwood, TN; sister, Edwina (Sonny) Butler of Decaturville, TN; grandchildren; Michael Montgomery of Jackson, TN, Kelsey (Lucas) Tilleros of Clarksville, TN, Rachel (Scott) Nanney of Lakeland, TN, and Katie Stricklin of Mt. Juliet, TN; great grandson, Oliver Evans of Lakeland, TN.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis & Alma Montgomery; brother, Tom Montgomery; sister, Valerie Milam.

Visitation for Mr. Montgomery will be held on Tuesday June 13, 2023 from 2:00PM until time of funeral service at Parsons Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 13, 2023 at 4:00PM in the Parsons Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow in the Sardis Ridge Cemetery in Parsons, TN. Bro. Jonathan Downs officiating.
