Reverend Vaughn Ray Hamm was born on January 9, 1934 and was called to his heavenly home on June 27, 2023 at 8:10 am. He was born in Decatur County as the son of Alpha and Aulsie Hamm also of Decatur County.
Vaughn grew up and lived in the Beacon Community and was loved by everyone that knew him. While growing up in Beacon he met the love of his life Dorothy Mitchell, known as his “Dottie Bell”, his beloved wife of almost 70 years. After marriage, they moved to Flint, Michigan where he worked for General Motors Buick Division for four years. He returned to Beacon and drove a produce delivery truck for Holcomb Produce and later retired from Decaturville Sportswear. During his time as a delivery driver he felt the calling of God into the ministry. While at one time a “rouder” this came as a surprise to some, but he never doubted his calling after that moment. From that point forward he lived his life to minister to people. Over the next 55 years he was led to pastor nine churches throughout Tennessee. He was a gentle giant with a heart of gold that touched so many lives. He always had a smile, a kind word, and a scripture for every occasion. He loved his family and even to the end was uplifting and encouraging to them all, and even his doctors and nurses were astounded by his faith in God, his bravery, and his kindness. Brother Hamm enjoyed working in his yard where he loved to garden and tend his flowers. He loved his coffee and keeping his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Brother Hamm lived his life on the word of God and shared it with all that knew him. He trusted the Lord and stood on God’s promises.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Alpha and Aulsie; two brothers Paul and Fred Hamm; daughter Shelia Ann Hamm, and son Kent Mitchell Hamm.
Brother Hamm is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, son Steve (Beverly) Hamm, daughter Bridgette (Randy) McKinnon, and daughter in-law Rosa Hamm; four grandchildren, Misty (Michael) Cozart, Michael (Amber) Hamm, Tyler (Kari) Hamm, and Emileigh Jordan; five great grandchildren, Peyton Hamm, Wyatt Watson, Pierson Hamm, Reece Watson, and Jarrett Hamm. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Moore.
