Mr. Travis Freeland Tanner went home to Jesus on Wednesday, June 3, at the age of 94.
Travis was born to James Vincent Tanner and Maude Tate Tanner on March 9, 1926, in Ramer, Tennessee. As a young man, he served in the military as a Marine during WWII. Later, he worked for Memphis Light Gas and Water for 33 years until his retirement. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Parsons, Tennessee where he served God faithfully and spread his love of Jesus through music.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Willa Dean Tanner; his brothers, Lloyd Tanner, Thurman Tanner, Buck Tanner, Bobby Tanner, and Arlie Tanner; his sisters, Mattie Hughes, Cheerful Floyd, and Velma Crocker; and his daughter, Jan Cook.
He is survived by his wife Julia Tanner; his daughters, Dana Massey, and Carol Werner (Helmet Werner); his son, Chuck Burks (Lorrye Burks); his brother, Key Tanner (Gene Tanner); his grandchildren, Ashley Burtis (Shane Burtis), Austin Greene (Rochelle Greene), Scott Burks (Rachel Burks), Kelsey Kirk (Alex Kirk), Marshall Greene (Jessica Greene), Chris Cook, and Rayanna Devore. He also has 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life, he was a faithful servant of his Lord Jesus Christ and was always singing God's praises. He supported the Gideons and was a member of Campers on Mission as well as a music group called "The Band Group". He was an avid fisherman who hated to eat fish and anytime anyone asked how he was doing, his response was, "Well, I'm fair to middling."
The family of Mr. Tanner will receive friends on Friday June 5, 2020 from 11:00AM until time of service at Parsons First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 5, 2020 at 12:30PM at the Parsons First Baptist Church. Bro. Kevin Bromley officiating.
